The Radial is new for 2009 and is a light and highly technical cycling shoe. It features a lightweight resistant upper constructed of microfiber with a mesh lining in slip-lasted construction. This type of construction yields a lightweight shoe without requiring a mid-sole board and allows the upper to wrap around your foot providing a sock-like fit without irritating seams. The microfiber upper is extremely breathable and the mesh lining increases air-flow to keep your feet cool and dry. A soft padded collar with additional clearance for the ankle offers freedom of movement without putting pressure on the sides of the foot. The anatomically designed padded external heel counter holds your foot securely preventing slipping of the heel in the shoe. A lightly padded tongue is relieved at the ankle to avoid creating a pressure point. Closure is by three Velcro straps secured with stainless steel d-rings. The new CX Carbon Fiber sole in constructed with nine layers of Toray MR60 Carbon Fiber. The thickness of the sole will vary along the length of the sole, but at the critical cleat interface it is quite thin with a thickness of 3.5 mm giving a very low foot-to-pedal distance. Sole features a calibrated grid to make cleat adjustment quick and easy as well as a textured surface at the cleat interface to reduce the chance of the cleat slipping and negate the need for using sandpaper or other inserts for this purpose.
